LOUISIANA ART by New Orleans' Northshore Artist, DIANNE PARKS
Pirate's Alley
Original Painting
Pirates' Alley, so named because legend has it that the pirate
Jean Lafitte would meet his 'band of brothers' here. This story is
not true and neither did Andrew Jackson meet with Jean Lafitte
and other pirates to plan the defense of New Orleans. The alley
wasn't created until 1831 and its official name was Ruelle
d'Orleans, Sud. The yellow building on your left is the site
where William Faulkner wrote his first novel, Soldier's Play.
Today, it's one of the most popular alleys in the Quarter.
