The Sazerac is one of the oldest known cocktails, with its origins in pre-Civil War New Orleans. The original drink created in the 1830’s is reported to be the first cocktail ever invented in America . In 2008 the Louisiana House of Representatives proclaimed the Sazerac as New Orleans' official cocktail and. so far as it is known, the genuine recipe is still a deep, dark secret. At the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, The Sazerac Bar has long been a favorite gathering spot for locals, visitors and some very colorful politicians. As the Roosevelt Hotel says today: “Any bar can make a drink. Few make history!”
